Mavic Pro - Lake Panorama National GC Late Spring

Equipment Used: DJI Mavic Pro, Apple iPad, Lightroom & Photoshop CC

The trees are in full color now and the lush green grass continues to grow at Lake Panorama National Golf Course and the Mavic Pro continues to fly around capturing the beauty of the golf course.

I used DJI’s Go4 app on the Ipad to control the drone while flying with height from 40 to 230 ft depending on the angle and image I wanted to capture. I used AEB feature on the app to record bracketed exposures to help capture different exposed images so I could select the best one in post.  To create the panoramic shots, I switched the drone to tripod mode and then rotated the drone to get the whole scene captured. To get the vertical panoramic shots, I tilted the gimbal up to capture the sky while staying in the same spot.

Once in Lightroom, I used my golf course preset that brings out the greens and blues of the scene. The graduated and radial filters were used to fine tune the exposure of the image.  Panoramics were made in LR using its panoramic mode and selected multiple images to merge into one.

In Photoshop, I first used the healing, clone and patch tool to get rid of unwanted objects in the image like the swan decoys on the pond. Just to the left of the driving range, a tennis court was removed when I took this series of images so it was just dirt but the above tools did a good job of creating grass in that area. I’ll probably be adding fake grass the majority of the summer to this area.  Depending on the angle of the shot, my golf course LR preset leaves the green a little on the yellow side so I use a green filter at a low opacity level to improve the look if needed.

I continue to capture some video as well while out on the golf course which has a bigger learning curve for me because I’m used to photography instead of video. Add in the fact that the drone is a moving object, just adds another element to learn to get well exposed, steady video at the right angle. Included here is a few video’s that I’ve captured so far as I continue to learn.
